1.
A Better Temmpo Tune In. An experiment. To change the tempo of your day. For this exercise you don't have to sit or lay in any special position, you don't even have close your eyes. Just pick any track on this album, focus your mind and tune in. You’ll be given a cue for your in-breath and another for your out-breath. When your mind wanders, gently bring it back to the music and the breath. Focus. Wander. Repeat.
2.
Hello Breath / Welcome Moment Breathing in, get to know your breath. Greet it and feel it fill you up. Become familiar with the quality of it. Breathing out, welcome the moment this breath has given you. In, hello breath. Out, welcome moment.
3.
More Curious / More Control As you breathe in, be curious about the natural rhythm your breath falls into. How does it weave into the music? As you breathe out notice if bringing your awareness to the present moment allows you to adjust the rhythm of your breath with the music. In, more curious. Out, more control.
4.
Aware Of The Body / Allowing The Body As you inhale, start to scan your body, starting with your feet, and working your way all the way up to the crown of your head, before starting again. Be curious about any sensations at each part along the way. As you exhale, acknowledge the hard work your body does. Allow your body to just be. If there is tension, let it be tense. If you are relaxed, let your relaxation deepen. In, aware of the body. Out, allowing the body.
5.
Connection / Confirmation With your in-breath, focus your awareness on the most prevalent sensation in your body. See if that sensation connects to any of the mind’s passing thoughts or emotions. With your out-breath, simply confirm the rightness of these sensations in your body and thoughts or emotions in your mind. Without judgement. Without a need to cease them or hold onto them. In, connection. Out, confirmation.
6.
Tidal Waves / Waves Of Compassion Breathing in, welcome the sensations in the body, including any passing emotions or thoughts. Notice how, like the tide, these sensations, emotions, or thoughts rise up, then subside. Breathing out, nurture your body and mind with waves of compassion. The same unconditional compassion you would show to someone that you love dearly. Feel any tension or tightness release as each wave crests. In, tidal waves. Out, waves of compassion.
7.
Expanding Awareness / Growing Gratitude With the in-breath, expand your awareness until you notice something in this moment that you weren’t aware of before. Maybe this is your breath, a far-off sound, even a passing thought or emotion. With the out-breath, see if you can find a sense of gratitude for this moment to breathe and be aware. To notice, and by simply appreciating your noticing, growing your contentment. In, expanding awareness. Out, growing gratitude.
8.
Sharp Focus / Deep Insight Inhale and choose one element of the music to focus on. Let the other parts fade as you bring your full attention to that one sound or instrument. Exhale and explore the insight you gain about the element while focusing in on it. Explore the patterns and rhythms you hear. Get a sense of how each part interacts with the other elements in the music and then start again with a new sound. In, sharp focus. Out, deep insight.
9.
Leaves On A Stream / A Better Tempo Breathing in, I know the sensations in my body, and the thoughts and emotions in my mind, are like leaves on the stream of my consciousness. Breathing out, I find a better tempo for my life by practicing mindfulness, which gives me the ability to choose which leaves I follow and for how long. In, leaves on a stream. Out, a better tempo.
